Bruce Springsteen at the Grammys

If you were unfortunate enough to watch Bruce Springsteen's performance at the Grammys then you will know what I am talking about in this blog. Springsteen played a song called Devils and Dust which was a pretty good song musically. However, Springsteen sang about (now forgive me if I get this wrong, I only heard it once) soldiers changing as a result of doing things in war that they normally wouldn't do i.e. killing and what not. At the end of the song he stood up and said "Bring em home" obviously in reference to Iraq. What Bruce doesn't understand, and never will, is what it takes to be a soldier deployed to a foreign country. He does not know what it takes to do the things we do everyday and he does not know how the war affects us. Bruce has no business writing about war and how it affects soldiers. He is a great musician but a lousy politician and even lousier statement maker. From an American soldier: "Screw you Bruce, you have no idea what it is like so keep your mouth shut and your pen silent."

Your great review of the Grammy Awards proved to me that my decision not to watch the ceremonies last night was right on as were your final comments to Bruce.

There's a whole lot of "armchair Generals" out in hollyweird t.f. I stopped watching them, their movies etc a long while ago.

What really gets me is their holier than thou, "morally superior" attitude, not to mention the sheeple who follow them and think they're all knowing and "it".

Bah. This from people who pretend to be someone else for a living...

Give 'em heck, t.f. (no swear words used, in case your Grandma is reading) :)

Hey Boggs- - -You are right once again. Two things I can't tolerate, Boggsy, people who think they are morally superior and people who aren't as good as I am. (That's a joke TF) As an old horse breaker I was always getting advice from people who had been to horse riding school and read a lot of books and rode horses in horse shows. I only actually listened and took advice one time. Result was a 1000 lb horse fell on me. Learned my lesson. Unless a person has done what I'm doing a lot more than I've done it I tell them to go #@%$ up a tree. I'm sorry, grandma, but breakin' horses isn't exactly a job for the demure. And I don't think folks are giving you enough credit anyway. Sorry Boggs. But somebody needed to defend grandma. or put nicer - -if you haven't walked a mile in my boots, just hush. Not to mention you are lucky because my boots hurt! Keep on with your great blogs, Boggs. You seem to pick up on all the failings of men.
Your hooked on Boggs reader,
Annie

Who the heck is Bruce Springsteen? In the words of the great Billy Joel "Go ahead with your own life and leave mine alone." Now that's music! Springsteen never thought about fighting for his country I bet.

Tim,
I just found your blog via Jens blog site. You have some great thoughts! Send them to a media outlet and see if they get published. I am glad to hear that you are okay, and you have the time to blog every now and again. I miss hanging out with you in Athens. We ought to road trip there when you get back. Things here at Michigan State are going well. Med school has kept me constantly busy, esp. this semester.
regards,
Chris Luring.

Screw Bruce!

Tonite, the American Olympic Contingent received a ROARING WELCOME at the Opening Ceremony in Turino!

Italy is the 3rd largest coalition partner in the War On Terror!

And if you want to read something absolutely heartwarming, please go check out this story called "Witnessing The Truth" at
The Dax Files

I hear in the news that people are tired of the war on terror. I hear reports that the backs of our young soldiers are broken. I hear reports that enlistment numbers are down. I call bullshit! Today I watched the truth happen before my very eyes. Today the truth set me free.

Stay safe!

I remember about your U2 knowledge Matt. I was not going to mention them so they are safe. My main complaint with musicians and movie stars is that they have so much influence over a large amount of people in America. Why that is so I do not know and it is kind of sad. They are of course entitled to their opinion but when they use their celebrity to sway public opinion then they become open game for me to criticize.

That comment was well worth repeating TF Boggs and absolutly why they are fair game. You never have said derogatory things against the innocent. Thank you for that. Got a kick out of the stutter step. Too much strong coffee maybe. A

Tim,

I totally agree with your comments about "they have so much influence over a large amount of people in America." One of my many ancillary angers resulting from September 11th is the fact that Americans seemed alerted as to the fact that everyday police and fire crews across the country do their jobs, and are absolutely essential to the fabric of this country. It shouldn't have taken an event like September 11th to remind us about the importance of our police and fire personnel - or any worker for that matter. Entertainers & performers do have too much influence.

Let me suggest checking out these radio feeds of Harvey Pekar, writer behind the "American Splendor" comics.

http://www.wksu.org/news/commentators/pekar/

He has a great piece on there about the unsung heroes of America.

Thanks Matt. I love American Splendor and love the movie. Harvey Pekar is a hilarious guy and an everyman for the downtrodden. I recommend that movie to anyone who doesn't mind being depressed for a while afterwards.

how sad to read this putting down of bruce, of anyone!, for wanting an end to an illegal war based on lies. my dad was a navy veteran and he died only hours after expressing his deep heart ache at the direction this country is taking. the compact he had with the government was that he and every other soldier will know why they are going to war, the American people will know why they are goin to war, the world will know why we are going to war - and it would be for justice, freedom, not despotism.

My father couldn't understand this pathetic defense of a 'leader' who has dishonored America with torture and murder of innocent people. what on earth is wrong with your patriotism that you could criticize a dissident in this country, let alone defend a lying mass murderer who has depleted our treasury, destroyed our good name, fiddled while our planet burns?

what are your values? loyalty to the fuhrer? sickening, pathetic, and really really scary for our future. or have you finally faced how much you've been lied to and how much contempt bush has for the vets and all people? still, you supported his sickness. if you don't know he lied you into this war, then you are willfully ignorant and that is a sad and dangerous thing.

didn't you, years ago, see the skit bush did, looking under his desk and couch saying, 'where are those wmds?' wmds boys were dying to find, wmds HE KNEW WEREN"T THERE.

again, what on earth do your values have to be to support that? certainly not american values. really, i think you posters must be russian or chinese moles with this level of misunderstanding of and contempt for our precious american values.

read a book. turn off fox news. stop embarassing yourselves and stop, for god's sakes please stop, endangering our country with your sheep-like support for the monster in the white house.

Thanks for your service but serving in the military doesn't automatically protect you from being wrong about why we're at war - and you are wrong on this, sorry, Laurie is absolutely correct.
